SEMESTER 1

DCMID111T Design & Communication (39 Hours)
This subject introduces students to cultural ideas and imageries corresponding to design movements in design history after the industrial revolution. Through the introduction of history and culture, students will develop an awareness and appreciation of culture and issues pertinent to design field and gain a broader understanding of how design affects and is affected by the culture of human society.

DCMID112T Design Principals & Colour Theory (39 Hours)
This subject is an introductory unit to design. It deals with topics such as basic design vocabulary, visual grammer and other basic elements of design that are important to create visual communication such as colour, shapes balance and unity.

DCMID111P Sketch Art (39 Hours)
Sketching is the fundamental of an idea.  All works evolve from a sketch.  Ideas are formulated, abstracted and built up through sketching.  The class encourages the student to understand how useful sketching is in both the direction of Fine arts and Graphic Design.  The objective is for the student to master and utilize the technique, reason and know how of basic sketching.  They are encouraged to explore themselves and understand how sketching can work for them.

DCMID112P Digital Photography (39 Hours)
This subject introduces you to the fundamentals photography. It provides you with the necessary theoretical knowledge of the role of photographs in design and communication; and the practical skills required to apply the basic principles of photography in image recording using the Digital SLR camera.

SEMESTER 2

DCD121P Digital Essentials (39 Hours)
It is no good to have a concept if you cannot produce it. This subject introduces students to the fundamental skills in Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe InDesign CS3. As an Adobe Authorised Training Centre, much of our software training are focused on dynamic workflow and time saving techniques to help you achieve your goal in minimum time.

DCMD122P Typography & Layout (39 Hours)
This unit stresses the importance of understanding type and layout and their applications. It requires student to explore and research the history typefaces, different types of layouts and their lead up to our modern definition of fonts and layout. This unit is conducted together with DCD121 and a complimentary unit

DCMD123P Applied Illustration (39 Hours)
This subject is designed to put the various graphic styles of the last century into historical context and to show you how styles can be reproduced and repurposed to create your own modern designs.  This subject will delve into movement and styles, overlaps and influences.

DCMD124P Ideation (39 Hours)
This subject introduces you to some idea generation, analysis and synthesis techniques within a problem-solving framework. Through these techniques, you will explore and develop fluidity of thought as well as an analytical mind. This subject introduces visual literacy where you develop your personal visual language to communicate a great variety of concepts. You will also develop and demonstrate your aesthetic awareness and design sensibility.
